Petition Letter
To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to respectfully petition the requirement that I withdraw from the University due to my current GPA. I understand the seriousness of my academic standing and appreciate the University’s academic standards. However, I believe there are exceptional circumstances that warrant consideration and an opportunity for me to complete my degree.
Over the past academic year, I experienced significant mental health challenges that had a substantial impact on my academic performance. These circumstances affected my ability to perform at the level of which I am capable and contributed directly to the GPA that led to this withdrawal decision. While I take responsibility for my academic record, I hope the University will consider the extent to which these circumstances influenced my performance.
In addition, my academic record is not yet complete. I am currently awaiting the final grade for a deferred examination that I recently completed. I have been informed that this grade will not be available until mid-June. As a result, the GPA used to assess my standing may not fully reflect my current academic status. I respectfully request that this outstanding grade be taken into consideration before a final decision regarding my withdrawal is made.
I would also like to emphasize that I am only three units away from completing my degree requirements. I have worked toward this goal for several years and am extremely close to graduation. If permitted to continue, I am prepared to enroll in and successfully complete an online summer course that would allow me to satisfy my remaining degree requirements and graduate.
Since experiencing these challenges, I have taken steps to better manage my mental health and ensure my future academic success. I am committed to completing my degree and believe that my circumstances, combined with my proximity to graduation and the outstanding course grade, justify an exception or probationary opportunity to continue my studies.
I respectfully ask that the University reconsider the withdrawal requirement and allow me the opportunity to remain enrolled long enough to complete my remaining coursework and graduate. I am prepared to provide any supporting documentation regarding my mental health circumstances, deferred examination, and academic plan.
Thank you for your time, consideration, and understanding. I sincerely appreciate the opportunity to have my situation reviewed and hope for a favorable decision.
Sincerely,
Hailey Craven
