Academic Plan
If my petition is granted, I will follow a structured academic plan that directly addresses the issues that affected my performance during the 2025–2026 academic year. My goal is to reduce the risk of falling behind again by taking a more manageable course load, using academic supports earlier, maintaining my medical treatment plan, and creating a consistent weekly routine.
First, I plan to take a reduced three-course load consisting of CISC 102, CISC 121, and COGS 100. During the past academic year, I was taking CISC 102, CISC 121, COGS 100, HIST 109, and MUSC 156 while also dealing with my Crohn’s disease diagnosis, symptoms, treatment, medical appointments, and medication side effects. I now understand that this course load was too heavy while I was adjusting to a chronic medical condition. By reducing my course load, I will have more time to attend classes consistently, review lecture material, complete assignments properly, prepare for tests, and manage my health.
Second, I will create and follow a weekly schedule that includes set times for lectures, course review, assignments, studying, rest, and medical appointments. I will review course material shortly after each lecture so that I do not fall behind. I will also set aside time each week to check deadlines, organize assignments, and plan for upcoming tests. This will help me stay consistent instead of waiting until work becomes overwhelming.
Third, I will use academic support services earlier and more regularly. I plan to meet with Academic Advising before the term begins to review my course load and make sure my plan is realistic. I will also meet with an advisor during the term to check my progress and make changes if needed. I will use Student Academic Success Services for help with time management, study strategies, assignment planning, writing support, and exam preparation.
Fourth, I will communicate with my instructors and teaching assistants earlier if I begin having difficulty. If my health affects my attendance, assignments, or ability to prepare for a test, I will contact the appropriate instructor or teaching assistant as soon as possible rather than waiting until I am already behind. I will also keep track of deadlines and course requirements so that I can ask for help in advance when needed.
Fifth, I will continue managing my health as part of my academic plan. I will follow my medical treatment plan, attend required medical appointments, and monitor my symptoms so that I can respond early if my condition becomes worse. I also plan to contact Queen’s Student Wellness Services and Accessibility Services to discuss possible accommodations related to my medical condition. This may help me manage attendance, deadlines, or testing situations if my symptoms interfere with my coursework.
Finally, I will improve my living and support situation. Instead of living off campus alone, I will be living with fellow classmates who are aware of my situation and supportive of my academic goals. This will help me stay accountable, maintain a daily routine, remain connected to my courses, and avoid the isolation I experienced during the past year.
Overall, this plan is designed to make my academic schedule more realistic and sustainable. By taking fewer courses, following a structured weekly routine, using academic and wellness supports, communicating earlier with instructors, and continuing medical treatment, I believe I will be in a much stronger position to succeed and show meaningful academic improvement.
