Academic Plan
My academic plan involves directly addressing the issues that caused me to struggle in the past year. Mental health is a huge focal point of this plan. My mental health has already improved since the beginning of the summer. My sister’s outlook has improved as the new treatment for her cancer seems to be effective. She no longer needs to have fluid drained from her lungs. Doctors are also optimistic about her being healthy enough to make a trip to England to scatter the ashes of my grandparents, and that she will be healthy enough to attend her first year of university in the coming fall term. This news, in combination with me being able to spend more time with her, has led to noticeable improvements in my mental health. During the school year, I plan to be in regular contact with a mental health professional, so that my mental health can be closely monitored to keep me from slipping the same way I did previously. In addition, I plan to get a new prescription for antidepressant medication and mood stabilizers, to be ready if old issues begin to resurface once again.
Additionally, I am already enrolled in summer courses through Queen’s. My grades during the fall and winter terms were below the expectations set by both the university and myself, and through these summer courses, I am aiming to right the course and improve my academic standing. I plan to use every resource at my disposal, both outside of Queen’s with therapy and potential medication , and from within it with accessibility services and other resources offered.
I truly believe I am ready for a return to studies, and I am entirely committed to it should I be granted the opportunity. I do not want to put my family under any more stress than what they are already dealing with, and if given another chance, I have no plans of wasting the opportunity.
