Academic Plan
This academic plan accompanies my petition to waive the requirement to withdraw for a minimum of three years. It sets out the focus of my studies, my intended workload, the solid strategies I will use to succeed, and explains in detail how the grade replacements work together to raise my GPA to the level required for good academic standing. It follows the structure recommended in the Faculty’s guide that’s titled Preparing an Academic Plan.
Firstly, I will remain committed to my current degree program and intend to complete its remaining requirements. I have reviewed my Academic Advisement Report again, thus I have understood all the remaining courses needed for graduation. I have structured the plan below around those requirements where most of the failed courses will be repeated or substituted. I believe that this appropriate plan will both satisfy the degree requirement and improve my GPA under the University’s replacement rules. If confirmation of my eligibility for any specific course or concentration is required, I will obtain it from the Undergraduate Chair or Assistant before registering.
Based on previous learning from passing semesters, I will manage my workload realistically and flexibly rather than overextending myself. My priority each term in the future is to complete every registered course to a high standard, rather than carrying the heavy possible load that I might not be able to handle. I will first clear the outstanding work and deferred exams already in progress, then take the replacement and remaining required courses in a reasonable load that I can handle in following terms. If at any point my circumstances cause me to fall behind, I will promptly seek professional help or decisively drop heavy courses before the academic deadline just exactly as I did this past Winter instead of letting a difficulty faced turn into a failing grade.
The central lesson I have learned from past years is that my difficulties became failures only when I delayed seeking help. So, my strategies are therefore built around acting early and staying in contact, and they address both the academic and the personal sides of my situation.
One, I will continue to keep in touch with professionals in school services like Student Wellness, QSAS, Student Advising team and the Student Success Service to ensure the stability of both my mental and physical health. Of course, I will also seek help promptly through a walk-in clinic, my family doctor or my Chinese therapist when needed to ensure that nothing would interfere with assessments just like what I did during the whole 26 Winter exam period and now.
Two, I will notify my professors and the exam teams early before the exams start as long as I feel that I might need to sit the exams later because of sudden illness, while actively looking for effective actions that can be taken to solve the problem together rather than being frightened by unexpected events that caused simple missing of the exams and final accepting of the poor results that follow.
Three, I will stay honest and without reservation when trying to seek help from both school and additional sources. I will make sure that I have overcome the shame of finding help before talking and share everything needed so that I can receive effective help promptly no matter what kind of difficulties might appear in the future.
Four, I will use Student Academic Success Services and learning-strategist support to strengthen exam preparation and time management. I will try to keep ahead of coursework so that a single setback won’t finally snowball into a failed term.
Five, I will reasonably and promptly use sources of help from each course like tutorials, office hours and note-taking support as soon as I need it rather than falling behind due to incomplete notes or missing key points.
Finally, I will revisit this plan periodically with an advisor to confirm I am on track, so that I can adjust my course sequence promptly if needed as I go rather than letting things slip as I did in past terms.
Then, one of the most important things is that I have made a detailed table based on my GPA Recovery Plan. Because it’s hard for the web page submission to have a table included, please review it in the attached document that includes both the full petition letter and this complete academic plan. I clarified how most of the failing grades on my record are being, or have already been, removed or replaced under the University’s replacement rules, or are in active appeals using the table. It sets out each affected course and how it will be or has been resolved. The only failures that remain on the record are my History courses, Anatomy 100, and MICR 271 since I would prefer to take 221 in person in a later term. I also intend to explore a late drop of the History courses if that remains possible since they no longer contribute to my plan; and I will seek advice on this once everything else has stabilized.
After following every step outlined in the table, the majority of the failing grades on my transcript will be assuredly replaced by stronger grades in the calculation. This is why I am confident that my GPA will return to the level required for normal academic standing and even rise beyond it if given the opportunity to continue. I understand that the outcomes of these courses will weigh heavily in the decision on this petition. Thus, I promise that I will provide the outcomes of my appeals and petitions, and the grades for my in-progress and upcoming courses as amendments to this petition on time as soon as they are decided or posted. So, the Faculty would then have the most complete and current picture when making the decision.
In summary, my plan is straightforward and will serve as a clear guide for my next steps. I will keep my condition stable through ongoing professional support, act early and communicate openly when difficulties arise, manage a realistic and flexible course load, and complete the replacement and remaining required courses to a high standard. Combined with the replacements and appeals already underway, these adjustments give me a clear and credible path back to good academic standing. I am committed to following this plan, and the results of my Summer and Winter outstanding assessments that will be posted later will all be the strongest evidence for supporting the reality and usability of this plan.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Jasmine (Lingjie) Kong
