Academic Plan
To complete the rest of my Bachelor of Arts – General, Degree in Sociology, I need 18 more units. These units consist of 3 more SOCY units at the 200-level or above. In addition, I need 15 more elective units, to sum a total of 18 units. Upon reflection of my 4 academic years on-campus from 2020-2024, as well as my past online academic year from Fall 2025 to Winter 2026, I have identified that the correct pace of studies that is best for myself is a reduced course load of 3 courses per semester (9 units per semester, 18 total in the academic year) Fall 2026/Winter 2027. I have created a document outlining my academic progress so far, as well as the existing credits that I need, this will be attached alongside my academic plan. I am most familiar and confident with SOCY and HLTH courses, so sticking within those programs for my course selection will be best for my academic success as it provides me with a base of comfortability and understanding of the course structure and expectations. I have also taken EMPR and GNDS courses, so those would be feasible options as well. Looking back on my past years, I acknowledge that I should have been registered with Queen’s Student Accessibility Services (QSAS). Now that I am implementing the mental health supports and academic planning that I need to support my mental health challenges, I was able to register with QSAS and have met with my accessibility advisor Jon Oosterman on Friday, June 12th, and together we set my classroom and assessment accommodations. After I first received the letter informing me of a required one-year withdraw from academics, I immediately set up appointments with my primary physician, Dr. Michelle Sue, my psychotherapist Alaina Johnston, and Queen’s academic advisors. I have met with these professionals multiple times to implement a treatment plan going forwards that directly relates to my academic success, and they have provided supplemental documentation and supporting letters for my petition and academic plan.
