Academic Plan
If this petition request is granted, outlined below is my plan for how I will move forward through my degree.
I am currently registered for my undergrad in a Bachelor of Science (Honours) with a major in Mathematics and minor in Sociology. I am also in the Concurrent Education program, as I plan to become a teacher post-graduating. I am passionate about majoring in mathematics, but I plan to change my minor to drama, as it aligns better with my already completed credits and my planned teachables of Math and Drama. For my major, there are first-year credits which I am missing, as I originally took courses that only apply for a Math minor. I believe that these credits will be advantageous in providing prerequisite knowledge for following courses.
As stated in my petition, I am now taking medication to manage my depression, and am planning on seeking ongoing counselling throughout the school year as a way to check-in with myself about how these new strategies are working for me. Additionally, I plan to speak to an academic advisor when planning my courses for next year, and to discuss options for receiving academic considerations regarding my depression with Student Accessibility Services.
I plan to take a reduced course load to ease into my academic plan. This includes getting the first year credits in math that I am missing, and focusing any additional courses on topics I will find achievable, as I have a lot of credits required outside of my Math major that I can complete. Taking these first year courses will give me reassurance that I do have the skillset required to major in Math, while taking other courses outside of math will allow me to invest in my interests and develop my earnest interest in education.
