Petition Letter
Before the add deadline, I planned to enroll in these two courses and attempted to register for them. However, I was unable to because there was a financial hold on my SOLUS account while I was waiting for my OSAP funding for my other summer course to be processed. Since the funding had not yet been released, the hold prevented me from adding any additional courses.
I paid the outstanding balance with my credit card so the hold could be removed but the payment was not processed immediately, and by the time it appeared on my account, the add deadline had already passed.
During this time, I also tried to contact Academic Advising through the online drop-in service several times on multiple days, but the queue was always full, so I was unable to speak with an advisor before the deadline to try and figure out if they could help me.
One of the courses is a chemistry course (CHEM 285) which I have previously completed an equivalent course (CHEM 223). While I completed CHEM 223 I did not achieve the grade I had hoped for, and I would like the opportunity to strengthen my understanding of the material before taking more advanced chemistry courses this fall. I believe having a stronger foundation will help me be more successful in my future coursework. I was really hoping to add two courses for this semester and FILM 260 was an elective that interested me so I was hoping to add that as well. Completing this course during the summer would also help me manage my workload better in the fall, as it would allow me to take four courses instead of five. I believe this would give me more time to focus on each course and set myself up for greater success academically.
