Petition Letter
I am petitioning to late drop all my failed and incomplete courses from Fall 2025 and Winter 2026 due to extenuating circumstances that were beyond my control.
In August 2025, my OSAP funding was denied. This came at the same time as I signed a new lease in Kingston starting August 20, 2025, for $1,250 per month. The sudden loss of funding, combined with this new financial obligation, created intense stress. By early October 2025, a Senate Sanction Block hold was placed on my account for an unpaid balance of $9,110.23. These holds prevented me from dropping or adjusting any courses and even from viewing my transcript. I felt completely overwhelmed and anxious. I was unable to focus, keep up with my work, or take action to drop courses when I realized I was struggling. As a result, I performed poorly in MATH 121 (full year), MATH 112, CISC 101, CISC 102, and ARIN 100 in Fall 2025, and MATH 212 in Winter 2026.
I did not seek mental health support at the time because I was too overwhelmed and didn’t know how or where to start. I tried to push through on my own, but was not successful.
Since then, I have taken real steps to improve. I met with Care Support Services on July 6, 2026, and they have provided a letter of support. I have also booked an appointment with an Academic Advisor and contacted Financial Aid. I am actively working to stabilize my situation and am committed to using Queen’s support services going forward.
I respectfully request approval to late drop MATH 121, MATH 112, MATH 212, CISC 101, CISC 102, and ARIN 100 late due to these extenuating circumstances. Care Support Services is willing to provide additional documentation to support this petition.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
