Petition Letter
Dear Petition Reviewer,
My name is Eva Thompson-Leonardelli, and I am going into my second year this fall at Queen’s University, Faculty of Arts and Science. I am writing to petition for permission to drop these courses from the fall 2025 semester: ECON 111, ECON 112, CISC 101, and MATH 127. I took these courses in the fall semester of 2025. On my first day at Queen’s, I experienced a seizure that significantly disrupted the beginning of my transition into university and affected my physical and mental well-being throughout the semester. As this was my first semester of first year university, I was still adjusting to the academic workload, expectations, and overall transition to university life while managing these circumstances. Following my seizure, I underwent an extensive medical process involving appointments, testing, and ongoing monitoring, which further affected my ability to focus on academics and manage administrative responsibilities.
In addition to managing the aftermath of my seizure, I was also struggling with ongoing anxiety, ADHD, and depression, which impacted my ability to stay organized, manage deadlines, and navigate academic and administrative responsibilities. During the exam period, I also experienced another seizure-related spell, and I was taken to the hospital during one of my finals, which further impacted my academic performance and overall functioning. Following that, I had to defer my final exams. Due to the unpredictable nature of my medical circumstances and the impact they had on my functioning, I was not in a position to appropriately assess the need to withdraw from the courses within the required timeline.
