Petition Letter
I am appealing to add the course MUSC171 after the add deadline. I ended up dropping MUSC171 a few days before the deadline. This is because another course opened up that I need to take (BIOL 319) and I could not keep MUSC171 in my schedule since I was on the waiting list for a different course. I was waiting to get into the course I was waitlisted for on Friday but it was getting near the deadline time so I decided to take BIOL330 instead of switching back into MUSC171, even though I was unsure of the BIOL course. The reason I chose BIOL330 over MUSC171 is because I thought I needed a 60 percent upper year course load during both fall/winter (ie. I had to take at least 3 upper year courses) since I believed this was a requirement for professional schools I wanted to apply to. I called one of the professional school advisors on Monday and they said I actually did not need a 60 percent upper year course load; I just need a year of full-time studies to be considered (5 courses per term). This is the reason I would like to be able to add MUSC171 instead and drop BIOL330. Since I added BIOL330 during the deadline, I am already two weeks behind and since it is a very content heavy course focusing on cell biology and biochemistry I do not believe I will be able to perform adequetely in this course and my GPA will be negatively affected. I know my GPA has not been very high as of up yet so I was counting on this year to make sure I can get at least a 3.5 GPA in order to apply where I want to. But with BIOL330, I do not believe I am able to since I have also missed some assignments already. This is the reason I would like to take MUSC171 instead. I am caught up on the course since I have been going to the lectures since the beginning of the term. I feel like it will be harmful to my overall academic performance if I continue taking BIOL330.
