Petition Letter
Dear Asociate Dean,
My name is Benjamin Mitchell and I am writing this appeal in order to add Math 221.
Firstly the extenuating circumstances for this appeal were as follows. I decided to switch
my major from general science to computer science at the end of my first year at queens, I am currently in second year. In order to do this I was required to take some online courses over the summer and get a certain grade in them in order to transfer directly into second year. I successfully did this however, I could not transfer programs or add my core 200 level courses until I received the marks for these courses. By the time I was able to enroll in the proper course I was put on the waiting list for Math 221, in position 2. At this point I felt certain that I would be placed into the class as only two people needed to drop it in order to free up space, not to mention the class was caped at 125 people and I happened to know that Jeffrey 127 auditorium has a maximum capacity of more then 125. During this time I received the bill for tuition, I was unable to pay my tuition because I required my OSAP funding in order to pay, I received my funding and payed my tuition in full about a week after this point. The issue was that when the space opened for me to be enrolled in the class, the math department was unable to enroll me due to a hold that was placed on my account for not paying my tuition on time. During this time I was coordinating with Irene Lafleche and Anne Burns to get placed into the course, Irene was unreachable for several days and by the time the hold was removed and I the attempt was made to add me to the class the deadline had passed to add the course.
It is very important to me that I get a space in this class, as it is a core requirement for the COMA program, which I am currently enrolled in. I feel as though I should not be denied this important class due to financial difficulties.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerly Benjamin Mitchell
