Academic Plan
Some steps I have already taken to ensure betterment include seeking counseling at Queen's, continuing to seek counseling over the summer, and getting a tutor over the summer to help me polish my basics in the courses I did poorly in these past two years.
I have also worked out an academic plan for next year with the help of my academic advisor: this plan includes taking a lighter course load (four courses per term instead of five), and choosing courses I am actually interested in rather than the more difficult Life Science courses (interest and aptitude in the subjects will definitely help in achieving higher grades). We also discussed proper study habits and worked out a general schedule that would most likely yield more productive studying time.
I was fortunate enough to get full-time employment with the provincial government this summer. Having this job experience - and the skills I am learning with it - are also beneficial towards my future as a job applicant, something that might help make up for my poor start in university.
Finally, none of these actions will make much of a difference if I don't maintain a clear mind this year. In order to do so, I will continue my work with my counselor at Queen's next year and maintain a healthy and open relationship with her, as she is someone who has proven to be a fabulous resource in my quest to get myself back on track.
