To Whom It May Concern:
I am requesting to waive the 21 day regulation on academic appeals for courses taken in the 2011-2012 academic year.
The difficulties I experienced during this time were caused by the stress of a family problem that arose at home in British Columbia because of my absence and prevented me both from being able to properly manage the academic demands of a university course load and from reacting to my drop in performance in a timely way.
It was not until I had some distance from this time and was able to speak to a counsellor that I began to understand that what I experienced could be considered an extenuating circumstance and that an academic appeal would have been an appropriate course of action for me. Successfully completing a full course load last year has also given me the confidence to revisit this period of my life at Queen¿¿s.
If this request is granted, I plan to submit an appeal to drop courses late along with documentation from Counselling Services, in the hopes that the transcript I graduate with might better reflect my academic capabilities.
