Petition Letter
Dear Ma¿¿am/Sir,¿¿¿¿
I am writing this letter in regards to Film 240. I have never had any problems with any course over my 2 years at Queen¿¿s and even in third year, until a few weeks ago. Around a couple weeks back, I had logged into Moodle to check for an assignment that I had to complete called feedback. But at that very moment, I noticed and checked the due date of an assignment for which the feedback was supposed to be written for and noticed that I had missed the deadline by 6 days I didn¿¿t know feedback was due for the missed assignment. I quickly checked my calendar, that both my friend and I had of all the deadlines of every course, and we both noticed that we miswrote the date. This assignment is worth 20 of my grade. I tried contacting our professor, but she couldn¿¿t help us to recover the 20 lost. This 20 represents a total of 2 letter grades, as you know. This course was meant for myself to be a GPA booster, but as of yet and already building up on my GPA that suffered the first year, this course is now making me fall back in my studies once again.
I completely agree that this is my fault and I shouldn't have let this happen, but I would never let any assignment go out of hand. 6 days is a long period. I would rather do poorly on it, then not hand it on time. Or even, not submit it all, which happened in my case as I was already half way through it already. 20 is a big deal for me. If it were a few percentages I would've made it up by getting more marks in some other assignment. But making 20 is near impossible. I was doing fairly well in the course, and aimed at getting an A- or B+ to the least. Now its seems even hard to even pass the course given all the stress I have received from failing to submit this one assignment and the effect it has had on my overall mark. Being an elective course, I had really hoped to get a good mark, as with any elective, but not of having it drop my GPA very significantly. The stress has made me even loose concentration on other courses as well for this semester.
I have never appealed for anything in university. Im definitely not that type of student to slack off. This was an honest mistake and one which would never be repeated. I need my GPA back to where I had aimed for this year, and by having this course be dropped it will definitely enable me to do so. I hope my mistake doesn't become a consequence for my academics as this is not a routine for me and I sincerely apologize for this mistake that shouldn't have taken place in the first place.
Kindest Regards,¿¿ Saad Sajid
