Academic Preparation
The material in geology can be difficult; however it is a field of study that I am interested in and have proven I have an aptitude for as I obtained a B- in Geology 107- History of Life. In light of that I have developed my plan around my area of interest and aptitude. I recognize that I have the ability to improve both academically and personally. This plan identifies solutions that will help me exceed the minimum grade point average of 1.9 for my Degree.
Proposing to take a part time course load of 3 courses per semester.
Regularly scheduling student academic advisor sessions at each term to seek guidance and advice on course selection and support networks available to students.
Retake courses to improve grade point average and level of understanding to apply to subsequent years of study.
Including additional first year course in the plan: Geography 101 - Human Geography and Geology 106 - Environmental Geology and Natural Hazards. I have reviewed the course descriptions and am confident I can succeed in these courses as they focus on topics I am interested in learning more about.
I also wish to continue to progress toward my degree by selecting second year courses including: Geology 200- Oceanography and Geology 232-Mineralogy. Thus making this year both a rebuilding and progression year.
Should course selection for the above courses be unavailable due to student numbers or cause timetabling conflicts I will look to substitute p level courses in my timetable.
I will seek out study and question sessions with fellow students, professors and tutors.
I will book regular appointments with Learning Strategies at Stauffer Library to acquire new techniques to maximize my learning and create a schedule that will balance my academic and football commitments so that my time and efforts are used most effectively.
Motivation
Having had the opportunity to take pure math and physics courses along with geology courses, I realize this is too wide a focus of study for me. Had I focused on geology course selections I would have performed better academically. Going forward, my course selection will demonstrate that I have learned this lesson and I will maintain my focus on geology and geography courses as I have a genuine interest and proven aptitude in this field of study.
In addition to developing new learning strategies through attending sessions at the Stauffer Library, I also will look to improve my time management skills to develop a healthy balanced learning lifestyle.
I am motivated to succeed in my studies and particularly in the area of geology because I researched this area of study before attending Queen's. I know that this program has produced very successful individuals, one of whom is a family member and another is a friend of my family. Both have great praise for their studies at Queen's and indicated that this program prepared them well for their careers.

I believe being a part of the Queen's football team this upcoming year will benefit me. With the team I have easy and free access to tutoring for my courses and access to excellent academic counselling from Mr. Andy Goodspeed as I go forward this September.
At any time should I encounter any health related issues, I will seek out the necessary services in a timely manner and reach out to academic advisors to reduce any impact to my studies.
Financial Resources:
I have the financial resources to continue my studies; however, should I be required to withdraw for a year it will significant impact my student employment and financial means for paying tuition as a number of employers offer student employment opportunities based on them being full time and returning students.
