Petition Letter
I am requesting to drop BIOL 102 after the drop deadline. I am making this request because I was unable to drop this course within the required time frame due to experiencing a severe depressive episode. The main symptom of my depression is extreme apathy. My depression and apathy prevented me from demonstrating interest in and commitment to my course work. I also did not anticipate that my depressive state would last so long and that I would be unable to function at a normal level during the semester. This period began during week six of the fall semester (week of October 18th-24th) and continued until the new year. During this time I attended weekly therapy sessions and consulted with my physician. Please allow me to drop BIOL 102 as I was not in an appropriate state of mind to make academic decisions due to my mental illness during the required drop period.
