Petition Letter
Last year, during my first year at Queen's, I struggled greatly with crippling depression and anxiety. I have since returned to Queen's and am having a much better year, while taking it somewhat slow and working hard to get back to my normal self and capabilities. I was fortunate enough to get help and support from the Chemistry department and from the Faculty of Arts and Science to make my return to Queen's for second year possible. This semester, I am finishing the lab portion of CHEM 112 to officially get the passing grade in that course, which I why I am currently enrolling in my Chemistry courses semester-by-semester with permission from the department.
I work two part-time jobs during the school year, and full-time during the summers, to help pay for the cost of being here. On paper, my parents' income reports as being too high to qualify for a lot of bursaries and government grants. This semester, I realized I needed OSAP to help pay for my tuition and rent, so I put in an application. However, from the Fall semester, I had a hold on my account that I was not aware of until this semester when I needed to change my time table around, as I had conflicts with a couple of required courses and so on. When I was finally able to pay the hold on my SOLUS account off, I thought it would be in time for the Friday, January 15th deadline to add courses for the Winter semester, but the payment did not process in time and I could not add courses on that Friday.
I need to be able to add the four courses that I have yet to be able to add, so that I can be confirmed as a full-time student and more importantly, so that I am taking the units of required courses I need (and electives) to graduate accordingly, and on time. I have been speaking with the instructor's for the courses (especially for my two required Chemistry courses) and have been attending the lectures, labs and tutorials associated with them to keep myself progressing with the rest of the class. However, with midterm evaluations approaching, I need to be officially enrolled as soon as possible. Thank-you for hearing me and for the continued support of the Faculty of Arts and Science here at Queen's, I truly belong here and deserve to be here, so please look upon my appeal with favour.
