Petition Letter
To whom it may concern at the faculty of Arts and Science,
I am submitting this academic appeal as I need to add FREN 325 to my course load this semester in order to graduate this April. I was misadvised during an appointment via phone at the end of August when I decided to switch my program from a BA honours in French studies to a general BA. I was told that I only needed two more french courses at the 300 level in order to graduate which I took during the fall semester and therefore did not enroll in any for this current semester. Perhaps she was confused by my transfer credits coming from Western. I received an email from Andrea Labelle on Friday January 15th, the last day of the add/drop period, but did not check my email until it was too late. I have already spoken with Stéphane Inkel and have and have obtained approval to join this class. I have also received approval from Professor Catherine Dhavernas, the instructor, and plan on attending the course while awaiting your approval to avoid missing any more material. There is still space left in the course and I feel that as I have already successfully completed five french courses at the 300 level that I would be able to catch up on missed content. As the class runs on Wednesdays and Fridays, I won't actually be missing any more classes even if I had made the add deadline on Friday(I will only have missed the first two weeks). I have been a varsity athlete on the rugby team and a part of many extra curriculars including designing for the Vogue charity fashion show so I'm confident in my ability to focus and work hard to catch up. I require this course to graduate in April and as I plan on attending a design school in England the following year, my graduation is an absolute necessity. I take responsibility for not checking my email on Friday but truly had no idea that I was missing a course. I ask that you please accept my appeal and allow me to enroll in this course. Thank you in advance for your time and I hope to hear from you soon. Best,
Bethany Greer
