Petition Letter
I am writing an appeal to request to add a course late. Specifically, I am requesting to enroll in PHYS P20 online as soon as possible.
The reason I am requesting to add this course late is because I am in my final semester at Queen¿¿s and I still need 3 more credits to complete my degree. I wish to graduate in the Spring ceremony, so I will need to complete my degree by the end of the Winter term. I did not become aware of the missing credits until after the add/drop period had ended, limiting my ability to enroll. The cause of this mistake boils down to communication error and ill advising.
Last semester I took an online course through Athabasca University (SOCI 301) at the advice of the sociology department and at the beginning of January I completed my final exam. I was told by Michelle from the department of sociology that the credit would count towards my degree. I never received a Letter of Permission from the department prior to taking the course because I was not aware that I had to. After completing my final exam, I was informed that I needed an LOP. I proceeded to get one, but my initial request was denied as SOCI 301 was an exclusion for PSYC 202, which I had already taken. After discussion with Michelle, and her discussion with the department, they allowed SOCI 301 to count towards my sociology degree as the final credit I needed, but they would not be able to count the course as a credit towards my actual degree due to the exclusion. This means that I still have 3 elective credits left to fill.
