Petition Letter
This semester my mental health has taken its toll on my academic performance. My dad was diagnosed with cancer a couple years ago, and it appears to have come back, and he is now undergoing treatment back home in Vancouver. Currently he is at home alone because my mother and my older sister have passed away, and my older brother is finishing his last semester here at Queens. At the beginning of February my dad filled me in on what he was going through and his health status, which then I immediatley returned home to be with him during this time. I have been on medication for anxiety and depression for several months, as well have sought out professional advice to help me through this tough time. This has affected my work since the beginning of February, and I have been feeling very unmotivated and driven in my academics as my head is elsewhere and my emotions have been consuming me throughout this past semester. As well I went through a very toxic and consuming breakup with my boyfriend of two years when this was all happening, which has also been making me feel very depressed and alone through this time and contributing to social anxiety with my friends, which is making it hard for me to reach out to anyone. I am very worried about my dad, because he is my only parent left and is at home alone, therefore I really need to go home and be with him and help him through this time and keep him company during his treatments. My academic performance has been greatly affected this past semester and I have been really struggling to hand in work on time and complete my assignments and work to my full capability. I have arranged a meeting with Lauren in the Health Services department to help me through the next couple weeks here at Queens.
