Petition Letter
To whom it may concern:
I am a second year Computer Engineering student, and am writing to appeal the passed deadline for dropping courses without academic penalty. My request is to drop the remainder of my core courses, due to extenuating circumstances concerning my mental health. The courses which I would like to be withdrawn from are CMPE 212, ELEC 274, ELEC 280, and ELEC 299. This would result in my enrollment in only one course, MATH 111, which I am currently taking as a replacement for APSC 174, which I did not complete in my first year. I wish to complete this one course in order to validate the credits I earned during the fall semester of this year that required this course as a co-requisite.
Since January of this semester, I have been unable to complete assignments, study effectively, or pay attention in class due to progressively worsening depression and anxiety. This state has become much worse in recent weeks, to the point where I do not feel I will be able to compete the term in acceptable academic standing. I have been meeting with a psychologist/counselor weekly for the past few months, and together we have begun to formulate a plan to improve my mental state in time for the next academic year. This plan includes further counselling once I return home for the summer as well as the possibility of medication. I also plan to apply to a program within the faculty of Arts and Sciences in upcoming months, as I feel that some of my mental issues are stemming from an incompatibility with my current program.
Thank you for your consideration of this appeal.
