Petition Letter
I am appealing for a late withdrawal from CISC 260 (winter 2016).
When classes began in Septerber 2015 I began experiencing an increase in symptoms of anxiety. These symptoms are attributed to social anxiety and general anxiety as relates to my academics. It became increasingly difficult to meet course requirements as the anxiety and panic attacks began to carry over into my study habits. I experienced difficulties in appropriate sleep regulation, poor concentaration and focus. I began to avoid my friends and had diffficulty going to class. I was unable to discuss and produce appropriate required class work with my peers.
I sought out medical advice and counselling at LaSalle throughout the past term and have begun taking an anti-depressant medication to control the effects of my anxiety and reduce panic attacks when studying. My uncontrollable anxiety has limited my ability to study and prepare appropriately. During the past reading week I also began experiencing severe depression and increased lack of focus .
I have been meeting weekly with a counsellor in the community for the past six weeks. I will continue to meet with her and my physician on a aregular basis to help regulate my anxiety. I will also be taking a lighter course load in upcoming terms to ensure academic success.
Thank you for your time and consideration of my appeal.
Sincerely, Emily Pasiak
