Petition Letter
To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing to you regarding my transcripts. My final semester marks are out of character for myself. Looking through my transcripts within the last two years at Queen¿¿s, I have obtained GPA¿¿s of 3.59, 3.15, 3.34, 3.57. Throughout my academic career I have shown constant progress and commitment to improvement.
On April 10th, my grandfather passed away, as a result, my preparation for my exams and my assignments suffered greatly. April 12th was my first exam at 2 pm and his wake began at 7 pm that evening in Toronto. I drove back immediately after my exam and through the weekend was with my family. Monday was his funeral and I returned to Kingston that night after the end of his funeral. I was devastated but I knew that I had to continue to focus on my school work. I tried through the weekend to do as much work as I possibly could but I know my work could have been better given my previous history. I had budgeted adequate study time for my exams but with the combination of family matters, personal issues, and family responsibilities, I could not devote the required time or attention to the exams. Neither result that I achieved in economics or commerce adequately reflects my capabilities as evidenced through my academic career.
As can be seen, the two courses that contained exams were the ones in which my marks slacked. Economics 112 was a repeated course that I had wished to upgrade. Even with this event, my mark improved from the initial effort, and I believe that I would have done markedly better had this not occurred.
I seek to appeal for CR standing on each of these two (COMM 495 and ECON 112) marks. Attached are the Death Certificate and Memorial Card from my grandfather¿¿s funeral.
If you have any further questions please feel free to contact me through email or on my cell phone at (416) 508-9311.
Thank you,
Andrew Sgro
