Petition Letter
To the Associate Dean (Studies),
I am writing this appeal letter to ask for an aegrotat standing for Anatomy 316, which I took this winter (2016).
My reason for this request is that I fell very sick (bacterial tonsillitis) on April 6th until approximately April 14th. I went to Hotel Dieu¿¿s clinic twice during this period only to get antibiotics on my second visit (April 11th). For the 9 days I was sick studying was out of the question and spent all day in bed, taking an unhealthy amount of over the counter drugs. In addition sleeping was an impossible affair, affecting even more my cognition. On numerous occasions I tried to study but my endeavor was quickly brought to an end as I could not focus and retain any information. Unfortunately this illness had terrible timing as I had my Anatomy exam on the 15th and two others on the 19th and 20th. Therefore I had no time to study for my anatomy exam and taking it would have been unwise for my academic future.
This saddens me, as I would have liked to finish off my year with a strong academic performance, which would have reflected the amount of work I put into the course.
As the Final is only worth 25 of my final grade I feel like an aegrotat grade would be the best option as I am very busy. This summer I am taking my MCATs (while being home overseas) and in September I am taking a deferred exam, which was on the 8th. Further more during that period of time I will be very busy with classes, graduate school applications and Queens Rugby.
Unfortunately clinics in Kingston do not give out ¿¿doctors notes¿ so hopefully a picture of my penicillin prescription and hospital bracelet will suffice as medical evidence.
I am now healthy and this kind of situation shouldn¿¿t (hopefully) ever happen again.
Thank you for taking the time to review this appeal.
With appreciation,
