Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean
I am writing this letter to ask for a consideration of dropping a course CHEM 223 organic chemistry from the faculty of Arts and Science. Following a meeting with my personal physician it became clear to me that many factors beyond my control have impacted my ability.
Last year, I went through the most suffocating time that I never experienced in my life. I was involved in the housing problem and that affected me not just doing my school works but also having an ordinary living. After knowing that my housemate left, I was paying the whole rent for the 2-bed room house. I even thought about taking a gap this year because my parents are supporting all three siblings including me in Canada. Since I am the oldest in the family, I felt heavily responsible for the financial problems. From this point my focus was heavily clouded and my concentration affected by my worries. My grief continued to affect me during the period of final examination and deteriorated to a point where I had to take a break during my academics. After a while, I got a new roommate, however the situation got worse. The new sublet housemate and I never get along. During this time, I never felt comfortable staying at my home.
My poor grade was not due to low ability or too much partying like you might imagine. Instead my grade has been suffering because I have been trying to juggle too much between unexpected situation and school. In short, I have found healthy ways to deal with my grief. I will make a study group, and importantly, I will often visit a professor for the academic assistances. Also, I will keep in contact with my physician to prevent any further consequences. For this reason, I can say that the problems faced during my second year will most likely not resurface in the future. Furthermore, seeing as this is my first time as a second year student, I believe that the Faculty should give me a chance to pursue, especially considering the fact that I suffered from extenuating circumstances that were completely beyond my control. Hence, I would like you a favour to give me one more chance to be a better student.
