Petition Letter
I am writing to drop my World Religions 131 distance course, a multi-semester course held from Fall 2015 to Winter 2016, even the deadline to drop this course has passed.
Due to his kidney failure, my grandfather paid quite a few visits to the hospitals at that time. Although his kidney failure was a chronic problem, his situation was suddenly worsened as the course goes on. While I had a hard time coping with the grandfather's illness and consoling my family members, I was also working full time throughout the Fall 2015 semester at a travel agency company named Canada One Travel because of family economic status. Please see attachment my 2015 T4 form provided by the company. It was a difficult time for me and my family.
Although he stayed with us for as long as he could with the extensive treatment, my grandfather inevitably left us for good on March 2, 2016. I had to make an emergency trip back to Hong Kong for my last visit. As a result, I missed a major essay was due and I could not complete it on time. Please kindly see attachment the death certificate of my Grandfather, issued by the Hong Kong Birth and Deaths Registry Department. As well, because of the traveling, I fell behind and could not catch up to the course. Therefore, I decided to forfeit the final exam because I decided that it is best for me if I just focus my time to do better on my other courses.
I chose to drop this course out of all of my other courses because it is a multi-semester course that requires continuous contribution and dedication. It is for those reason that I have decided to drop the course because I do not feel like I did my best. Not only did my grandfather's illness affected me, but at the same time I have to work full time so I could support my family financially. I do not need this course as a requirement for my program, so I plan to take several summer courses to make up for the lost credit from dropping this course. I have worked hard to overcome my emotions and plan to work hard on the courses I am taking, so I hope you will let me drop this course and start the summer afresh.
Thank you for taking time to review my request. I appreciate your understanding.
