Petition Letter
Dear Dr. Johanne Bénard,
My name is Janine Fung (0623-8991) and I am appealing to Return to My Studies after the requirement to withdraw for three years has lapsed. The Board of Studies denied my initial appeal for the request to withdraw acknowledging that while my medical condition did cause extenuating circumstances beyond my control, I failed to create a concrete academic plan. My request to return to my studies as a full-time student can be supported by my ability to handle a large workload, improved psychological wellness, and a strong, realistic academic plan.
The past three years have been used effectively by giving me the time required to improve my mental well-being that will allow me to handle the workload required to academically succeed. I was diagnosed and have undergone treatment for my anxiety and Attention Deficit Disorder for almost four years, which has improved my ability to handle high stress situations I was previously unable to. The combination of meditation therapy and adjustment to my current medication for over a year has helped me overcome my mental inability to academically apply myself supported by the attached letter from my physician.
My improved psychological well-being is reflected in my ability to balance courses I have undertaken in the interim at Ryerson University since last summer with a part-time job for 2 years as a Medical Assistant. My employment at 303 Paediatrics for the William Osler Health centre allowed me to develop a productive routine as I was working towards my mental recovery. To prepare myself for the completion of my degree, I started enrolling in courses last May to maintain a working knowledge of relevant courses and prove that I can excel academically in classes related to my program, which was a previous concern. I have attached my transcript to reveal my academic progress and capacity to undertake a workload required of a full time student provided a reasonable academic plan.
I have worked very hard to improve my mental health and have demonstrated academic competence during my time of withdrawal with the hopes of returning to Queen¿¿s to complete my degree. The challenging steps I have taken on a psychological and academic level have prepared me to undertake the following proposed academic plan that is realistically achievable with my current set of skills.
Thank you very much for your time and consideration. It is greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Janine Fung
