Re: Academic Plan for James Koehler - Student 10192053
For my academic plan I intend to stay in the Bachelor of Science (Honours) program. My plan is to retake unsuccessful courses in the next academic year, except for my electives. As it turned out I was not interested in the course content for the elective that I chose, so I plan on taking a language course instead. This will give me a lighter course load during the academic year as I would not being taking Physics 117. I intend to either take Physics 117 again or take an elective in the summer.
In order to ensure success in the next academic year I would strengthen the following:
¿¿ Know my strengths and weaknesses ¿¿ In this way I can maximize my strengths and overcome my weaknesses. I noticed that some of my weaknesses include time management and procrastination.
¿¿ Establish academic goals ¿¿ It is important for me to have some goals so that I can strive towards achieving them. Without any type of goals it may be easy for me to miss assignments or skip classes and not accomplish what I intend to do.
¿¿ Improve time management ¿¿ Develop better time management skills by keeping track of important dates and deadlines. It will also help me to prioritize my time better.
¿¿ Get to know my Professors ¿¿ Getting to know my Professors on a personal level would be a great benefit to my academic success and strengthen my networking skills.
¿¿ Study partners ¿¿ My goal is to have a study partner in each of my major courses. We would review sessions together, study for tests, work on homework, and work on lab assignments. It would also give me the opportunity to make friends at school which was a major concern of mine.
¿¿ Take better advantage of campus resources ¿¿ I would like to leverage the use of campus resources such as tutoring labs, reference librarians and workshops on study skills. This will allow me to develop the skills that I need to ensure I will be successful in the program.
To address any issues that I was experiencing while at University, I will work with Queen¿¿s Student Wellness Services Centre and my Physician over the next several months before re-entering the program. This would ensure that I would be capable of dealing with any challenges that I may face. The main issue that I was dealing with this year was living away from family and friends and the support they provided. I will overcome this by having the mental toughness that I would require and by making friends and networking while at school.
Sincerely,
James Koehler
