Petition Letter
I am appealing to have ENGL 100 dropped from my transcript. This summer, I wanted to take English as several of the schools I am looking at for my post-grad require it as a prerequisite. I was also enrolled as a letter of permission student at Trent University so I could take BIOL 205 as it was a prerequisite for most of the courses I am now enrolled in for my 3rd year. In February, my stepfather suffered a severe heart attack and while he ended up surviving, several complications with his surgery arose in May. I was spending most of my time with him in the hospital and was unable to keep up with both my courses. As BIOL was only a 6-week course, I decided to dedicate what little time I had towards succeeding in that course as I believed I could make up English in the second half of the summer. Unfortunately, at the end of July, my grandfather became very ill and I had to fly to Alberta to stay with him and my family during this very difficult time. Due to this situation, I wasn't in Vancouver to write my ENGL 100 exam and could not complete the final essay in the course. I contacted Dr. May about what I should do and he said that appealing to have the course dropped and taking it again next summer would probably be my best bet. As I don't really have any supporting documentation I have attached a screenshot of my email correspondence with Dr. May as well as details regarding my flight to Alberta and would be happy to provide any further information that you might require. Thank you so much in advance for your consideration - I would be very appreciative of any accommodations that could be made.
