Petition Letter
Hello, I am requesting an aegrotat standing in BIOL 322 because I am not able to write my final exam before the summer term is complete. I am requesting that my current incomplete (IN) status in the course be changed to an estimated AG value.
I was unable to write the final exam in April 2016 because my father passed away on April 14, 4 days before the final (April 18), and I had to travel from Kingston to my hometown of Sault Set. Marie. For obvious reasons I was not able to stay in Kingston for the exam, nor was I mentally prepared to write the exam during that period of time. I was also only returning to Kingston briefly for one night on April 22 to move out of my house, as my lease was ending at the end of April and my next lease at a different apartment did not begin until September 2016.
I then spent my summer working and saving for school in my hometown, which I pay for independently. Because the majority of my income goes towards paying my tuition, it was not feasible for me to pay for travel back to Kingston at any point this summer (it is a 10 hour drive, or a 700 roundtrip flight, in addition to hotel accommodations)
I have completed, and am passing 60 of the course work (the exam was worth 40), and believe that these circumstances were beyond my control.
Thank you for your consideration of this appeal,
Maria Nicastro
