Petition Letter
Hello Arts and Science Associate Dean Studies,
I am writing you requesting an Appeal for an extension of an Incomplete Grade. I sustained my second concussion in under eight months back on April 2, 2016, prior to the winter exam period. In spring, I obtained Aegrotat standing in two of my courses and deferred my others until the fall, but over the past five months I have had a very challenging recovery. I further bumped my head a number of times, causing setback after setback, subsequently exacerbated my symptoms. The dates of my setbacks were May 28th, June 4th, and August 20th.
I am currently experiencing difficulty concentrating, memorizing material and focusing. I experience bad headaches and fatigue from looking at computer screens for prolonged periods of time. Although my sensitivity to light and sound has slightly improved, it still limits my functionally. Additionally, in the past week especially, I have had extremely difficulty falling asleep and staying asleep as a result of post concussive anxiety. I have continued to see my neurologist and family doctor where they have prescribed medication and offered support. Neurologist Dr. Teresa Stefurak and my Family doctor, Dr. Michael Ramprasad, have both advised academic accommodations. The attached letter is dated August 19th, when I most recently saw Dr. Ramprasad.
If I were able to postpone my exams in ECON 232 (with professor Ian Keay) and ECON 212 (with professor Art Stewart) I feel the added time will allow me to overcome these symptoms and study more effectively. Currently, I am scheduled to write ECON 232 tomorrow (Friday September 9th, at 9am) with other students who were unable to write this exam in Winter Term, but I feel in no condition to do so.
I believe writing these two exams towards the end of September or beginning of October would be ideal.
Finally, I am contacted these professors via email and they are both in agreeance.
Thank you very much for your understanding and I hope to hear from you soon.
Sincerely,
- Blake Mitchell Wilson
