Petition Letter
I am writing this appeal as I was uneducated as to which courses, and how many credits I needed to have in order to meet the criteria of my degree. During the Winter 2016 semester I faced an extenuating circumstance which enabled me from completing the term. My mother was very Ill and did not show any signs of improvement until August 2016. She had lost control of her motor skills, including her legs, and bladder. Throughout the last 7 months she was tested for ALS, MS, cancers, tumors, diabetes, blood diseases, neurological Diseases and the list goes on. My mother is a single mother of 3, with a boyfriend who lives in Tennessee (13 hours from home) so I often travelled home to take care of my mom. Both my sisters and I are in school and have very little extended family to care for my mom. She is the most important person in my life and therefore I unfortunately put my studies aside to give my mother the care she desperately needed. When i returned to Queen's this fall I was finally able to meet with academic advisor, Heather Carter, on September 23rd who helped me get back on track, and advised me which classes I needed to take. I was still short one credit this semester and everyday would try to enroll in the class but couldn¿¿t figure out why I wasn¿¿t able to. I then realized there was still a sanctioning block on my account which wad temporarily lifted earlier. I had payed the fee on September 13th, however the wrong student number was entered as the account number and it was never actually processed.
