Petition Letter
I am a philosophy student who has found herself drawn to branches of philosophy dealing specifically with metaphysical and epistemological problems; unfortunately the majority of the faculty focuses their research in areas of ethics and political philosophy, which are of little interest to me. As a result, the majority of the classes offered fall in the spectrum of the professors' research, and I have much difficulty selecting courses which correspond to my line of interest. I have already expended my allotted two Directed Special Studies courses (PHIL510 and PHIL511). I am currently enrolled in the only other course of interest to me (PHIL311). I require another philosophy course to stay on track with my degree plan and Dr. Nancy Salay (my prof for 311) suggested that 348 might be to my liking. However, at that point I was just past the close date for academic enrolment. That said, Dr. Salay had noted that Dr. Hannon had implied that he would be fine with my enrolment in his class past the enrolment date (something I spoke to him about after sitting in on his class this past week). If it's ok with the admin, I'd really appreciate the opportunity to take a class which complements my area of study.
Thank you,
Nicole Fitzgerald
