Petition Letter
Dear Dr. J. Hugh Horton,
I am writing to request your academic advising services regarding my poor academic performance in my courses for the winter term, 2014. Unfortunately, due to personal circumstances and mental health concerns (i.e. stress and depression), I struggled to cope with the demands of my program. I stopped attending classes because of these reasons and consequently I did not receive a passing grade in any of my courses. Regrettably, I was not aware at the time, of the various counselling and accommodation services that Queen's University provides to students in similar situations.
I am now aware that there are supports available which can assist me with rising above the difficulties of the previous winter term. I understand they can help me learn how to cope with the stress and pressures of an academic program. My intention is to re-enroll at Queen's University to start afresh with the support of these services and with increased support from my family. I am highly motivated and determined to overcome the challenges I face, and thrive as a strong and proud Queen's University student during this fall term of 2014. Although the deadline to drop winter courses has past, I would like to discuss with you the possibility of dropping my course grades (Winter 2014) from my transcript so that I do not carry the burden of these failing grades with me into my future academic endeavours. I intend to register for these classes again this fall.
I would like to meet with you in person to discuss this possibility and seek your advice on how to proceed with my appeal. I have learned from my mistakes and I am confident that with a second chance and with greater support this coming year, I will achieve success with my studies.
Sincerely,
Tony Nguyen
