To Dr. Bénard
I am appealing to waive the 21-day deadline for waiving failures do to extenuating circumstances.
The reason that I exceeded the 21-day deadline is that I found out only recently that there were extenuating circumstances. After failing the courses, I felt as if my grades weren¿¿t reflective of my actual ability. I noticed had a hard time studying and focusing on projects. When I was required to withdraw from active studies for a year; I decided to get an educational assessment. Over the summer, I visited an educational psychologist and underwent diagnostic testing. I¿¿ve included the results alongside this appeal. I received the results, a diagnosis of attention deficit disorder, on October 12th and I¿¿ve started this appeal process as soon as I arrived back in Kingston.
Now that I am properly diagnosed, I am much more conscious of my weaknesses. I have been given lots of advice from the Dr. McCabe on how to best work around my disorder. Following his advice on the optimal way for me to study and his advice on how to keep myself organised I believe that I can succeed going forward. With this plan and proper medication, I would like a chance to try again. If my appeal is granted, I will submit my main appeal. I hope to be able to recommence active studies in the winter term of 2017. My first goal will be to retake the courses that are necessary to my degree, alongside some courses that interest me. I intend to use these courses to develop my new study habits based on the psychologist¿¿s advice, and adjust them so they work best for me.
