Petition Letter
I am appealing to drop CISC 220 (Fall, 2016) passed the academic deadline.
The reason for this is appeal is an accumulation of unfortunate circumstances that hindered my ability to be as successful in this course as I would have liked to be. Early in the semester, there were family and relational issues that I was going through (which I would prefer not to go in detail about). Over a couple of weeks, along with affecting my concentration in terms of studying and keeping up with the content of the course, it continued to build up and I got to a breaking point where I had to miss a couple days of class, including the first big test. This was beginning of a vicious cycle of trying to catch up with the material, but being distracted, doing poorly in the quizzes and assignments, and ultimately adding to the insane amount of stress that already existed. The worst part is that I held the burden on my own and didn't share with anyone. Furthermore, by the time the family and relational issues subsided, I found myself extremely behind and worn out. I felt like I had been dealt a bad hand, and I blame myself for not striving even more to make the best of my situation.
In the future, I would like to take this course again as I did find the material interesting. I actually look forward to when I can take it next fall semester. In terms of the issues I went through this semester, I can look back and honestly say it was a good learning experience for me and it prepared me on how to approach a similar situation if it occurs again. With the number one lesson being to do a better job of separating my student life with my relationships with family and friends. And the second lesson is to have someone I can share my anxieties with, and to not keep it bottled up.
I appreciate your understanding, and thank you for your consideration.
