Petition Letter
December 10, 2016
To Whom It May Concern:
This letter of appeal is to waive the one term deadline. I would like to appeal my marks from a few first year courses that were heavily affected by an illness that I am still recovering from. The reasons I was unable to submit an appeal by the deadline are that I was unaware of the one term deadline and that my illness prevented me from filing an appeal in the appropriate time. I was only made aware of this appeals process on October 26th during a meeting with Haley Everson, an Academic Advisor in the Faculty of Arts and Science. At the end of the winter semester of 2016, my mental illness prevented me from successfully completing my courses. The illness only got worse, getting to the point where I wasn¿¿t able to function properly and take care of my personal or academic needs. Being in this state left me physically and mentally unable to seek out any help from Academic Advising for my low grades or to find a solution for my academic probation status.
Since that time, I have set aside my academic pursuits to focus solely on therapy and recovery so that I may return to classes in the Fall of 2017.
By appealing the one term deadline, and later my first year marks, I would be able to put my university career back on track and drop grades that were heavily affected from an affliction that was beyond my control.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Rachel Berry
