Petition Letter
Dear Associated Dean (Studies),
I am appealing the Faculty's decision that I need to have a CR to replace my letter grade for my STAT 263. At the beginning of the term I got almost 100 on every quiz and midterm; however, in the later term, I have been distracted by my family problems. My mother and my sister had a conflict, so I was spending most of my time on talking to them and thinking about that problem, but I still got to manage my time to do practices. However, the day before I had the final, I heard that my grandmother had a car accident. Her head had crashed into the front window and the window was fully broken. I got this message from my aunt because my mom wanted me to focus on my finals. Since I heard the news I was so freaked out and I tried to call my family in China but there is jetlag and my phone cannot call internationally, so I had to write the STAT 263 final in the next day and have no ideas about my grandmother's health. During the test, I had a headache and I just cannot focus on the exam. For so many questions that I know how to do, but at that moment I just cannot think and solve problems. After I saw my result, I was shocked because I got a D on my overall grade and my expectation was a C. I was glad that my grandmother is fine now because I went back to see her during the winter break and at least I passed the course. I did not fail this course but I need to get a C for STAT 263 to take a third-year Economic major required course Econ 351. If not, I will not appeal a CR for a passed course. I have told this information to my professor and he suggested me to appeal my grade to a CR. I know the course contents and I know how to solve those problems, but the timing was bad for me to write that final. Since I have learned this course I will not be worried taking the next level course because I have the confidence and the experience of facing these kinds of problem in my later life even this kind of situation happened again. Having this course make into CR will save more of my time because I am already taking 5 courses and already have decided on taking summer courses as well. If I must retake STAT 263 because of family issues, I do not think it is worth and I have passed the course. So, I do hope that you could accept my appeal and thank you for taking you time look at this letter.
Sincerely,
Jason
