Petition Letter
My name is Usman Baig, I'm a 4th year student in the applied economics program with a minor in mathematics. I wanted to file an appeal to switch from Economics 422 to Economics 423 past the academic deadline.
The reason why I want to switch courses is because I recently accepted a job at a large pension fund/private equity firm where a lot of my day-to-day responsibilities involve understanding the financial markets as well as valuation which Econ 423 specifically focuses on. Although, I have enjoyed Econ 422, I have found it slightly theoretical in regards to what I really learn and feel that 423 would be much more beneficial going into my summer job.
The reason why I missed the deadline was that I had a large amount of interviews for the last two weeks. I interviewed with about 6 different firms/banks for first rounds on campus and then subsequently had 2nd rounds with four of the firms. For second round interviews, I was in Toronto all last week which captured my entire attention as my focus was to secure a job. I'm sorry that I did not make the deadline in time but I feel that under these circumstances, I hope you understand my circumstance in being late to switch classes.
In terms of my strategy to learn the material for Econ 423. I have read a few books on valuation already and worked at a hedge fund last summer (one of the topics in the course is on hedge funds), therefore have a foundational knowledge base of the material in the course. Although, it will require some hard work, I am more than willing to put the work in to succeed in Econ 423.
Please let me know if you need any information and please feel free to call me at 905-719-1163, if you require clarification on anything.
Kind Regards,
Usman
