Petition Letter
Dr. Johanne Benard
Associate Dean (Studies)
Faculty of Arts and Science, Queens University
Kingston, ON
Dear Dr. Benard,
I am appealing to have two failed courses from the Fall 2016 Semester removed from my transcript and one course marked ¿D¿¿ converted to a ¿CR¿¿ credit standing.
Last Fall I was hit very hard with depression and anxiety as diagnosed by Dr. Farnworth on campus. My symptoms were such that at first I was treated for mononucleosis but with some testing and with time we realized I was suffering from mental illness rather than physical. This greatly impacted my concentration, memory and ability to work.
The courses I would like to have removed from my record are PHIL 318 and POL 242. The course that I would like to have converted from a ¿D¿¿ to ¿CR¿¿ is HIST 241.
I would like to explain that I was able to achieve a good mark in LLCU 322 because there was no final exam and the course evaluation (a final project) wrapped well before the last week of classes which is when I really faced my troubles.
The steps I have taken to not let this situation happen again are as follows:
- I am taking a prescribed ant-depression/anxiety drug as per Dr. Farnworth
- I am seeing an on-campus counsellor through the student wellness centre regularly
- I have started a regular exercise and vitamin routine.
- I have dropped one course from my Winter semester to lighten my academic stress load and help me get through this challenging time.
My plan is to look into Summer School and possibly add a 5th year Semester to my degree plan as I am very hopeful to attend graduate school once finished my degree at Queens. I appreciate your understanding on this matter as it has taken me totally by surprise and I am doing my best to deal with this difficult situation.
Sincerely,
