Dear Dr. Ravenscroft
Re: Claire Moliner Student 10086101
Aegrotat Appeal to the Office of the Associate Dean (Studies)
Following a referral by Mike Condra and an academic consultation with Kathryn Morrissey, I am writing this letter of appeal on behalf of my daughter, Claire Moliner, Student 10086101, who seeks to appeal under Academic Regulation section 3.3.3 and Requests Aegrotat Standing in three Courses.
Following a mental health crisis, Claire Moliner deferred 3 of 5 exams at the end of the Winter 2014 term. She was planning to write these exams this August. She has had another setback and was admitted to KGH following a second suicide attempt in July and discharged on July 21st 2014.
Claire has been seeking treatment and hopes to return to Queen¿¿s in September. She will not be able to complete outstanding exams in August. Among the stresses which are contributing to her poor mental health are the three pending exams in the following courses:
1. SOCY 122 Rob Beamish
2. Math 121 Alan Abelson
3. Psych 100
We are advised that Claire completed and passed at least 60 per cent of the work for these 3 courses. However, because of illness and extenuating circumstances beyond her control, she is unable to complete all the work of the course, and in particular the final exams.
We believe she is eligible for Aegrotat standing as per the definition in s. 10.2.1 ¿¿ Aegrotat Standing:
¿¿ Aegrotat standing is reserved for a student who, because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond their control, is unable to complete all the work of the class. At least 60 per cent of the work to be evaluated in the class (assignments, midterms, laboratories, final examination, as specified in the course outline) must be completed. ¿¿
We are in the process of obtaining a medical certificate outlining how extenuating circumstances have affected Claire¿¿s academic performance and will forward it shortly.
Can you please advise if you require a letter of support from any of Claire¿¿s instructors and whether there is any other information or documentation you require in order to consider this appeal.
Thank you,
Marie Moliner (mother of Claire Moliner)
Kevin Whitaker (father of Claire Moliner)
