Petition Letter
Dear Dr. Johanne Bènard,
I am writing to you to request aegrotat standing in the following courses, due to medical reasons: PHIL311, PHIL348, PHIL361, and GPHY258. As you know, I have been dealing with a chronic physical illness for some time. In the fall of 2016, my condition worsened considerably, and this required that I return home to London in December to be closer to my doctors. My illness, and the treatment plan that I was on, made it impossible for me to complete my December exams. Many of the complications that I experienced were due to the medications that were prescribed to me in September 2016.
Since I have come home in December, I have been closely with my doctors to resolve the current flare up of my condition. I have undergone several tests and I am hopeful that my doctors and I will establish a new plan for treatment that will allow me to return to Queen's in September 2017.
My plan moving forward is to request aegrotat standing for the courses outlined above, and write my remaining PHIL335 exam on April 24th. I am also completing two Philosophy independent studies with Dr. Antonio Calcagno at King's University College. I believe that these courses will help to keep me on track for graduation in June 2018, although I will re-evaluate whether I will be able to resume full-time student status, later in the summer.
I am very grateful to Queen's University for the support and understanding that the Academic Dean's office and my professors have extended to me throughout this process. Attached to this letter is a medical note from my family physician, Dr. Miranda Sheppard. I am happy to provide any further documentation, from my specialists or others, or any additional explanation as needed.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Maya Sylvester
