Petition Letter
To whom it may concern,
My name is Lillian Maye and I am currently in first year, hoping to pursue an undergraduate degree in Art History. I am writing this letter because I would like to drop two courses ARTH 120 and PHIL 153. I will be retaking ARTH 120 this summer because it is required for my program. I am also writing this letter about POLS 110, to request a CR. During the end of first semester and the majority of the second term, I was not present in class due to ongoing health problems and family concerns. I was able to complete my online courses since I was able to complete them anywhere. My current health issues are my battle with severe depression and social anxiety. I have been hospitalized more than once for suicide attempts; this was why I was not present for politics, art history, and philosophy. I also am still currently dealing with financial responsibility for funding my education and supporting my father financially. All of these added stressors made it difficult for me to attend class or complete my work and pushed me into a deeper depression. I have been in contact with my TAs from both politics and art history. My Politics professor Andrew Lister re-weighted my exam to be 80, from missing majority of the lectures and tutorials my final grade is a D+. I am grateful for the passing grade, but because of the low mark, I was wondering if I was eligible for a CR. In regards to Art History and Philosophy, both my TA and professors as well my academic advisor they and I feel it is best for me to request an appeal for both courses to be dropped. I have worked extremely hard and have gone through a lot to be able to attend Queen's University and worked as hard as I could this year under my current circumstances. I am seeing a counselor at Queen's and will be participating in a day hospital rehabilitation program for mental health, to ensure I do not experience a relapse of depression and suicide attempts. I have attached a letter from my doctor, citing my diagnosis as well as a letter from my counselor at Queen's that I had issues this year. I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely, Lillian Maye
