Petition Letter
Dear the Associate Dean,
I am writing this letter to appeal to drop the course PSYC 221 for the winter semester. I developed a heart condition starting from last December, and until mid February to almost the end of February, I barely went to my classes or caught up with my school work because of it. I was diagnosed to have premature heart contractions, and my mom has the same disease. It has never happened before. It was a newly acquired illness. When it happens, I could always feel a sudden drop of my heart beat and it was extremely uncomfortable. It just felt like I was riding on roller coaster 24/7 and I had to lie down to make it go away. It interfered with my studies, and I could barely continue to study with such a horrible health. Even now, I am still experiencing it when I get tired or overwhelmed. I am taking 5 courses this semester, and due to this condition, I had to postpone so much of my work and I just finished my last project 2 days ago. I did not have extra energy or strength to study for PSYC 221. Before the exam at the end of March, I talked to my professor of PSYC 221, and she said that it would be better if I just appeal to drop the course, for my condition could not allow me to get enough study done. Besides this, I also experienced a lot of stress because I really wanted to get good marks for this semester. I had suicidal ideation and I hurt myself a little too. I went through a really bad time. I even called Good2talk at night crying on the phone about my academic performance. I really do not want to drop any courses because every single course is really expensive to an international student like me. However, with both physical and psychological condition, I was not in the condition to continue with PSYC 221. All in all, I would really appreciate if you could kindly drop this course for me because my body was not equipped to handle 5 courses when I remained sick throughout this semester. Please let me know if this decision can be granted. I would really appreciate it
Best,
Shu Tian
