Petition Letter
For this final project of this course I have decided to explore the other side to the coin of the material we were taught, topics such as radical Muslim minority. My thesis attempted to prove how majority of the Muslims were radicalized rather than the minority. Granted the topic is touchy and controversial keeping in mind the course material itself. I have used scholarly articles, direct quotes from religious texts and data from PEW Research Center to prove my thesis, no anti-Muslim propaganda or hate speech articles were used in this essay. The essay structure and citations are all nearly exceptional. I do believe I received this grade based on the fact that the Instructor does not agree with my thesis, which is fine, she is entitled to her opinion as much as I am to mine, but, her opinion should not reflect on my grade, this is unprofessional.
What also boggles my mind is the fact that she labeled my essay as crudest forms of Islamophobia just based on the fact that I explored a topic that the course material did not cover, I provided nothing but cold hard facts and direct quotations, I do not think facts can be labeled as racist
With that being said, I can see how my topic could cause for some concern, but throughout the essay I mentioned numerously that no publication should justify hate crimes - and I have also mentioned that no religion is safe from extremism and radicalization bringing up numerous terrorist organization from other religions such as the Christianity, Hinduism, Judaism, Buddhism etc.
The fact that I explored another side to an argument was labelled as racist and was written off with a grade D with sub-par explanation makes me question the professionalism of this instructor.,
As said previously, this essay does not promote hate speech, but uses facts and direct quotations that could not be discretided or seem biased
