Petition Letter
To whom it may concern,

Hello, my name is Cody Smith and I am submitting an¿appeal¿to waive the 21 day/one term deadline for submitting an academic¿appeal.¿
Last year I received the grade F in GEOLOGY 106. This letter is meant to try to give some clarity as to why I have waited passed the deadline to send in an appeal. By first giving a brief description of the events that occurred I will show you the reasoning behind my appeal, and then I will describe why I am submitting it passed the deadline. Near my birthday (January 31st) of 2016 I started to feel overwhelmed by the workload and being away from home accelerated that anxiety. This drove me to the point where I couldn't handle it anymore by myself and decided to reach out for some help. I met with the Guidance Counsellor in Victoria Hall named Freeman Woolnough who helped me through this difficult time. I also made frequent trips to Toronto to meet with my Family Doctor, a Naturopathic Doctor, and to spend time with my family who were worried about me as well. During this time, I missed crucial lectures and found no time to catch up on material due to this anxiety problem. During the summer I discovered I am able to¿appeal the grade I received due to extenuating circumstances, to me this was an extenuating circumstance. Before submitting a formal appeal letter I first wanted to make sure I got my grades back on track and had all the credentials necessary to further prove why my appeal is valid. Throughout this year (my 2nd year) I visited student accessibility services and received accommodations for my exams. This helped me improve my marks each semester this year and give me the help I needed. I then approached all the physicians/therapists I visited during second semester of first year to obtain a letter describing my condition at that time. Once I gathered all this information I put my energy towards writing this letter.
The reason my appeal is late is because I wanted to show myself and Queens that I am fit for university life, which I feel I have done with my constant GPA improvement and increased participation in extra curricular activities such as the Economic Case Club I am apart of (QCSC). I hope you take the time to read this and grant me my wish of a waived 21 day/one term deadline. If this¿appeal¿is accepted I will submit any additional doctors notes and all other medical information you require to further show my case, so far I have attached the off-campus physician letters I recieved. Last year was very difficult however I am happy to say I have found a balance in my work and emotions going forward. I am more grateful for this than reluctant because of the lessons it has taught me and attitude it has given me to go no where but forward in my life. I just ask to not be punished for an incident that helped me grow into the man I am today.
