Dear Associate Dean,
I am writing an appeal for course withdrawal from winter semester 2017 because of my chronic depression. I depressed many years and it was more sever during the academic years. Couple of years ago, I started to treat my depression by medication for first time by psychiatrist and I continue it. It was good until my last semester which I had some extra stress because of some changes in my life and at the end it was hard to challenge with them. Now I believe I did my best and I accept that I have no more ability to continue my academic education, I already applied for General Computer program instead of the honors. If I heal in future, I may be able to update my honors degree.
I took 3 courses on winter 2017 and I chose CISC 454 to drop because only this course offered by Athabasca university. I noticed I am not able to handle my depression and stress at the same time with the dropped course but I could not notice I even not able to handle the rest of my 2 courses too. I failed the rest of 2 courses. My GPA now has reduced and I am not able to repeat these 2 courses to raise the GPA again because I left Kingston and I backed to my city to deal with my depression and personal life. I am not sure if I can back to academic again very soon. I had a hard time during my academic years and I did my best to control my mental disability. It works for a while but now I am overwhelmed with my unbalanced situation. In current situation, I know I have no ability to start again. My plan is graduating at general program degree which I am eligible according to academic advisers.
I want to petition the dean to let me to drop these 2 courses, CISC 462 and CISC 458 from my transcript, this let me to have a minimum eligible GPA for my future study if I get energize to update my honors degree at Queens or by having more flexible time and place to study on each course at other institute and transfer them as a credit to Queens. I like to get my honors degree in Computer Science when I get back my ability.
I am doing my best to balance my life and healing my depression. Now I have more supports by living in Toronto from treatment, therapy and by being close to my family.
Thank you for considering this appeal.
Sincerely,
Nava Nasseh
