Petition Letter
I am writing to appeal my grades in the courses of HIST 124, POLS 101 and PSYCH 100, due to personal extenuating circumstances. This circumstances includes problems concerning my mental health such as my anxiety disorder, which as negatively affected my school work and getting assignments done. My anxiety acts up severely when I am under stress, such as when writing an essay. When I feel stressed I also start to feel extremely anxious and can come close to having an anxiety attack. It usually causes me to shut down and not finish my work, in order to bring my stress levels down. My anxiety also has a huge affect on my mood, as I used to suffer from severe depression in high school, which can sometimes be brought up by my anxiety. When I go through these moments I also tend to shut down by isolating myself from people and work. I have registered myself with mental health services, where they have tried to help my anxiety and get my extended due dates. I love Queen's University and the program I am in, and would not want to be on academic probation. I seriously want to continue my studies and feel that I can really work harder, as well as perform better academically in the upcoming year. I am taking an online course over the summer to try and make up for a credit. My mental health is something I have been struggling with for awhile now, and do not want it to have an affect on myself personally and how I perform in school. It is a condition that I have little to no control over, which affects me even on more levels than just academically. It affects me mentally, physically and socially. I am going to continue seeking help with mental health services on campus in the future years to help get control over my anxiety and help me to focus more on my school work. I promise I am a smart, hardworking student, but sometimes this can not be seen with mental health affecting me.
