Academic Plan
Academic Plan: 2017-2018
Part A: Course of Study
I would like to major in Global Development with a potential for a minor in History. I intend to retake DEVS 100 in order to improve my grade, as well as multiple history courses to improve in that area of study as well. I understand that I would not be eligible for selecting a major until the end of next year, so I would use the upcoming year to further explore other areas of study and improve my overall GPA
Part B: Full Time vs. Part Time
I would like, if permitted, to return to Queens in the fall as a full time student. The issues surrounding my academic performance this year were not a matter of ability, but rather, of health related coping issues. I had no problem during the first term as a full time student. I was able to go to class regularly, hand in assignments on time and be present for tests or other assessments. Issues only arose after the withdrawal symptoms occurred
Part C: Strategies For Success
I plan on obtaining a family doctor in Kingston next year, should any health issues arise. I can then receive immediate care and not have to worry about seeing a doctor with whom I am not familiar. I have also learned that I am far more organized, and therefore less likely to be stressed and anxious, if I have a physical calendar available. I can write all of my due dates down in the first week of school and have a fixed schedule mapped out from the beginning. I fully plan on implementing this strategy. My issues were not related to course content, but more to do with the health issue that I was facing at the time, so most of my strategies will revolve around stress reduction. I plan on making sure that I have a good support system next year in order to insure that I don¿¿t feel isolated and alone. The first line of defence for me would be friends and family. I am going to try to be more open with them about any issues I am facing. Secondly, if the issue is larger than a friend or family member can assist with, I plan on contacting the Student Wellness Services Centre to receive more assistance. If any academic issues arise, I also plan on contacting my professors and Academic Services earlier rather than later.
