Academic Plan
Academic Plan
The degree plan I would like to pursue is the Biochemistry specialization. Over the summer, I will be taking BIOL 103 and CHEM 113/144 online and the second semester work for MATH 121 to write the examination in September. These courses are going very well so far, and I hope to continue doing well in them throughout the summer. After completing these courses, I will have the prerequisites to enter the Biochemistry program. Over the regular school year I plan on taking five classes each semester, while having the option to drop a course if need be. Through keeping a healthy diet and lifestyle as well as taking my medication, I have greatly reduced my migraines and subsequently will be able to fully dedicate myself to my studies. I understand that to achieve success in university one must juggle several priorities and that success relies heavily on clearly defined goals, now that I have the time to focus on these goals I will finally be able to accomplish them.
Accountability is an incredibly powerful tool that can be used to ensure one continues to excel and stay on top of their work. Being accountable to myself will play a big role in my success. By keeping an agenda of deadlines and homework, I will have a way of recording what must be done and whether I've done it. I will also meet with an Academic Advisor on a regular basis, to see what options I have if I end having a course that isn't going as planned, or at the very least to check up on how I'm doing in my courses. This agenda will also help me keep a strict schedule that has clearly defined blocks of time set out for each of the assignments I need to complete. I will also set aside time for breaks in order maximise efficiency and keep my mind fresh. This will ensure that I know what needs to be completed and by which date, as well as how much time each task will require. This will allow me to finish items before the deadline, and keep me organized. Another important key to my success this summer, as well as the rest of my time at Queen's, will be utilizing the resources set out before me and not being afraid to ask for help. Asking questions to TAs and meeting with professors during their office hours is incredibly important to both further my understanding and to clear up difficult concepts I may have questions about. Now that my migraines have decreased significantly in frequency, I know that I will succeed through all the techniques listed above, continuing to stay healthy and my continued dedication to not only my chosen program but to the Queen's community at large. I hope that you will give me the opportunity to continue my academic career at Queen's, you won't regret it
